RIMScast

Sep 4, 2018

Show Summary:

Welcome to the first episode of RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Writer at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society. He’s coming to you live from Conference Room B at the RIMS Headquarters in New York City to bring you interviews with leaders of the international risk management community.

Justin’s guest today is Ward Ching, Managing Director of Aon Risk Solutions. Ward is a trailblazer in the risk management industry, known for helping to shape it over the past 40 years. Some of his significant accomplishments include: championing the emergence of online insurance, promoting Hawaii as a global captive center, co-founding the RIMS Strategic Risk Management Development Council, and developing the RIMS Certified Risk Management Professional Certification (CRMP). At the RIMS 2018 Annual Conference, Ward was presented with the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award — RIMS’ most prestigious honor, awarded to an individual who has furthered the goals of the society and the risk management discipline.

In this episode, Justin and Ward discuss the key differences between risk management 40 years ago (when Ward started his career) and now, advantages and disadvantages of being a risk manager today, creative solutions organizations are doing with captives these days, how Ward has helped develop the CRMP program, and his takeaways about top trends in the risk management profession.
