Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
Recently, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) released its Hotel Booking Index Rating to Gauge Hotel Industry Outlook. Joining RIMScast today to discuss 2023 projections and risk management trends within the hotel industry is AHLA President and CEO Chip Rogers.
Chip originally joined the American Hotel &
Lodging Association (AHLA) as President and CEO in January 2019.
AHLA is America’s only national association dedicated to serving
the interests of the entire hotel and lodging industry and was
named “100 Associations That Will Save the World” by ASAE under
Chip’s leadership.
In this episode, Chip shares AHLA’s findings in this episode such as the impact that COVID-19 has had on the hotel industry, short-term and long-term projections, and the opportunities that have emerged due to the pandemic.

“Now, across the US, 60% of the [hotel industry] revenue is being generated by leisure travel. … So, the next few months should be pretty stable and then we’re looking for a pretty significant uptick come May and June of 2023.” — Chip Rogers
“Good RMIS technology; really flexible technology can administrate so much more than just the very narrow claims, disposal, and policies that it was originally built for.” — Scott Fenstermaker
“You’re not going to find any other industry that’s more committed to stopping human trafficking and helping the victims of human trafficking [than the hotel industry].” — Chip Rogers
