Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.
Considering hurricane activity alone, 2020 was a tumultuous year with a record of 30+ named storms. Now, we are at the start of 2021’s hurricane season in North America and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting another above-normal Atlantic hurricane season.
To discuss 2021 weather predictions and the connection between climate change and severe storms are two leaders from Swiss Re — Scott Carpinteri and Megan Linkin. Scott is the Senior Vice President and specializes in innovative risk solutions and corporate solutions. Prior to his current role, he was responsible for Treaty Reinsurance at Swiss Re as a Reinsurance Structurer, Treaty Underwriter, and Pricing Actuary. Megan Linkin is a Senior Parametric Nat Cat Underwriter at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and has a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science.
In this conversation, Scott and Megan give their forecasts on the 2021 hurricane season, climate change, and business interruption, and how parametric insurance might be useful for more companies moving forward.
