Welcome to RIMScast. Your host is Justin Smulison, Business Content Manager at RIMS, the Risk and Insurance Management Society.

In the aftermath of the financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused boards to rethink their risk oversight. As a result, managing risk has become more top-of-mind as a skill set for board recruitment. And these days, what better site to use than LinkedIn to network if you want to find yourself in a boardroom? Networking virtually is becoming an absolute necessity as more and more professionals go remote.

In this episode of RIMScast, Whitney Craig, RIMS Government Relations Director, rejoins the podcast to conduct a special interview with career coach, Richard Dodson! Richard is an award-winning author, speaker, career consultant, and most importantly for this conversation a LinkedIn expert! Currently, he is an Executive Consultant and the LinkedIn Practice Lead at Navigate Forward; the premier provider of Executive Transition Services. To say Richard is knowledgeable in the space of self-promoting and catalyzing careers is an understatement. His book, Power Your Career: The Art of Tactful Self-Promotion, won five national awards as the best career book of the year; and he has coached more than one thousand people through challenging career transitions.

Richard and Whitney speak about the RIMS Path to the Boardroom initiative, the skill sets and personal branding updates you need on your LinkedIn profile to either sit on a board or rise to a high position in leadership, the most important first steps to take in order to be considered for a board, how to leverage virtual networking, and what you can do to use LinkedIn to procure a board seat.
