[22:40] Gary joined RIMS as CEO on June 1, 2022. This is his fifth CEO assignment. When a CEO comes in, the CEO and board work together to align and create a roadmap.

[26:19] RIMS pursues innovation and leverages opportunities to collaborate with others and create member value and engagement. Wherever RIMS can find knowledge and people to contribute to the advancement of the profession, RIMS looks at them.

[27:16] The RIMS plan includes building more resilient and engaging chapters and supporting chapter leaders. RIMS is organized into 80 chapters.

[27:58] RIMS is investing in a new chapter management platform, with a new chapter website platform and systems to help chapter leaders spend less time on administrivia and more time on programming, education, and experiences for members.

[28:27] About the plan’s focus on talent, DE&I, and rising risk professionals to grow the organization and serve the risk management community.

[30:01] About RIMS’s new branding team and content team. RIMS is looking to build and grow its culture and support each other as a team, working together across departmental and divisional lines. RIMS is focusing on content, strategy, and branding.

[32:18] About the enormous amount of content produced and shared by RIMS to hundreds of thousands of people around the globe every month.

[33:48] The content team is to learn about content strategy and make recommendations for a plan to be more strategic and intentional and create more value.

[34:13] The branding team is mindful of what message RIMS is sending out and how it is being perceived. They communicate the value of the organization and the importance of risk management through a coherent brand strategy that is consistent and clear.

[36:03] It takes a village to support a profession and advance a professional society.

[36:33] Gary’s advice for organization CEOs taking on leadership of a strategic plan: “Clarity, intentionally, consistency.” Gary has consulted almost 300 associations for strategic planning over the years.
[37:02] The key is getting to a common understanding of reality, coming up with ideas for objectives and goals, and narrowing them down to the things, that if done, will make the biggest difference for the organization and create greater value.
